I'm Rebekah Julicher, and I'm a Computer Science major who got so fed up with the user interfaces around me that I went to grad school for a Master's degree in Human-Computer Interaction out of spite.
I did my undergraduate studies at the University of Arizona in CS with a minor in Information Science, Technology, and Art (basically where they pushed all the web dev, game dev, and classes that almost fit into CS, computer engineering, software engineering, or electrical engineering, but not quite.) During this, I worked for two semesters as a TA for a class on Object-Oriented Programming, one of which was done while balancing an internship in business applications at Tucson Electric Power.
I decided I hadn't yet seen enough of the hardware side of things, so I then got the opportunity to work with Rain Bird Corporation's firmware team for about a year. While there, one of my primary tasks was creating a set of virtual simulators for the LXIVM, LXIVM-Pro, and LXME-2 irrigation controllers. It was a challenge, but it was a fun one. As a manager told me during this project, I seem to "thrive in ambiguity".
As I finished up my time at UofA, I became the departmental recipient of the Outstanding Senior Award of Fall 2022, and graduated with a strong 3.87 GPA.
A year and three car batteries later, I'm finishing up a Master's degree in the MHCI program at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh (late July, 2024). I'm across the country from my nice, warm Sonoran Desert, but when you do competitive robotics for seven years straight in middle and high school, you develop pretty strong opinions and passion towards Human-Computer Interaction.
If you want to get in touch or hear me rant about full-touch-screen car consoles, vending machines, or The King's Object-Oriented Toaster, drop me a message!
